Based in & around Huntsville, Alabama, Watters/Felts Project is co-led by trumpeter/flugelhornist Ken Watters & vocalist Ingrid Felts. The band members are among the most in-demand live & studio musicians in the south, and include pianist/keyboardist Keith Taylor, bassist Abe Becker, percussionist Darrell Tibbs & drummer Marcus Pope. Each member has a following in their own right, but as a group, the ensemble has shown strong "marquis-value" from their first performance together. Between their fresh sound & onstage charisma, WFP has rapidly developed a strong & loyal following.
Watters/Felts Project's jazz repertoire is large and varied, consisting of a carefully chosen mix of great standards from virtually every modern musical genre, plus original music contributed by each band member & performed in WFP's own unique style. WFP's programming may include a classic Billie Holiday standard, immediately followed by their own rendition of a Joni Mitchell, Sting or even a Dylan tune. The resulting sound is an instantly appealing brand of jazz that has seldom been heard before, but can knock down walls that can divide vastly different musical genres.
The priority of Watters/Felts Project is simple - to perform great songs & interpret them in their own unique style.
Trumpeter / flugelhornist Ken Watters is a Summit Recording Artist with 6 CDs released internationally on the label (all of which spent significant time in the top 50 on the US jazz & world music charts). He is also endorsed by Jupiter / XO Musical Instruments, and is a SESAC-affiliated jazz composer. His original “voice” on trumpet & flugelhorn, and his musical rapport with singer Ingrid Felts, are a large part of WFP’s unique sound as a band. Ken has performed and/or recorded with Cee-Lo, Frank Sinatra, Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean, Marc Anthony, B.o.B., Gregg Allman & many other musical icons.
Since relocating to north Alabama in August 2010, vocalist Ingrid Felts has taken the regional music scene by storm. Because of her diverse stylistic ability, sheer vocal precision and captivating stage presence, she is rapidly becoming the most in-demand jazz, commercial & studio singer in the southeast.
Pianist Keith Taylor is one of the most versatile musicians in the area. As a performer, he specializes in a number of styles, including classical, jazz, popular and church music. He has performed throughout the southeast as a soloist, accompanist and ensemble player. Bassist Abe Becker got his start as a professional musician in the Birmingham, Alabama area. He has performed with virtually every major jazz & non-jazz artist in the region. Due to his stylistic versatility, Abe is among the top-call bass players (both acoustic & electric) in the southeast.
Percussionist Darrell Tibbs toured with Donna Summer and vocal ensemble Take Six for over twelve years, in addition to being a Vic Firth Drumsticks, Paiste Cymbals & Remo Drum Heads Artist/Clinician. He is also in high demand in studios throughout the entire region, making him one of the most recorded percussionists in the south. Because of his impeccable taste and musical sensibilities, Darrell is an indispensable part of Watters/Felts Project.
Marcus Pope is known throughout the region as one of the most solid “backbones” in terms of his groove, creativity and flawless sense of time. As well as being a Vic Firth Drumsticks Artist/Clinician, he founded the popular Pope School of Percussion in Madison, Alabama, where he and his staff teach over 70 private drum students.
